EMERGENCE, Concept
This is the first
nonfunctional artwork I have made several years. I undertook this project
to clearly express the feelings that I have about my personal situation. This
sculpture is about growth. The spiral of the railroad spikes rising in a column
is like DNA, the life force. The helix is bursting out of a concrete pyramid
is reminiscent of a spirit rising out of a tomb. The core of metal spike heads
wobbles back and forth like the vertebrae of a young mammal as it grows and
establishes equilibrium. The spiked points thrust themselves into space establishing
their domain and right to exist.
